PP doesn't remove any timecode.  When you open the original sequence, you see the clips that are used in that sequence.  If you want to get timecode from one of those clips, open it in the Source Monitor.

I agree with Bill and Ann. PPI stands for pixels per inch, which basically means number of pixels to real world inches, and 72 is an old resolution as Bill pointed out.

Stay with DV editing. It is a good codec that edits like butter. Your performance with DV will be much better that an Mpeg based codec.
