Re: Is there a way to insert AFDs into a file upon export?

AFD = Active Format Description.  A flag contained in either a file's metadata or VANC that tells a receiver/IRD/set-top-box how to display an image.  For example, an HD file/stream may contain an AFD flag for 16:9 Letterbox, so if the file/stream is downconverted the receiver/IRD/set-top box will display the SD version letterboxed, as opposed to center cut, anamorphic, etc.

I know there are a lot of hardware items that can insert AFDs (AJA FS1, FS2, etc) and dedicated transcoders (FlipFactory, Carbon Coder, Elemental) but it would seem like this is something an editor could do as well.  Maybe not, but I'd like to know for certain...

So you changed a long-winded but informative thread title to an uninformative one.  In a flood of topics, how does that help?

When we produce a training video, we are aware that we are not going to require the audio. Therefore, conversations go where they do.

I do not want in the future that someone is reviewing the footage is hears things that they do not need to hear.

Turn off the onboard mic. during the shoot or have some discipline during the shoot as regards audio on set.

Transcoding is an in efficient time wasting workflow to manage something like this.

This may be related to the Matrox VFW Software Codecs.  If you have recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista, it may not be a compatible version.  Uninstall the old version and install the version 2 copy from Matrox.

Thanks, John.

I had seen that page, but not being well versed in techie speak, it looks Greek to me.

I guess for my level of knowledge, I need a more basic answer, like yes or no.

Thinking I may need to replace my old Sony laptop soon.  It also has a s400 port that the Surface 3 does not have, but that's another issue . . . .

Thanks to anyone who has a definitive answer on this.

Chapter markers don't appear in Encore after Export from Premiere

I have to admit that I am really frustrated by this whole Adobe Cloud. Every time I 'upgrade' to the latest version, there is some new bug that REALLY hampers my workflow, and in the meantime I find no new features that are really all that useful to me right now.

Here is the latest: After creating chapter markers in Premiere and exporting the timeline as an m2v, I bring the file into Encore and none of my chapter markers are there. This worked up to two days ago right before I 'upgraded'. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Also, if I export a file that uses the Warp Stabilizer effect, the word "Stabilizing" appears on the output during any clips that use it. This was a little embarrassing to discover after I sent out a DVD to a client. I have found a work around for this, but seriously WTF??

I don't feel confident that I should ever upgrade any more, but then what am I paying for?

Does anyone know if it is possible to revert to an old version once you've upgraded.

Chapter markers came through fine for me on Windows 8.1.

You should start a new thread for the Warp Stabilizer.  I have seen other reports of issues on that one.

OK, So to be more specific it's hanging when I send it to Media Encoder Queue. I was just able to just do a direct export.

I found the article on permissions and that was not the issue.

I've made no changes to hardware and have done three projects with the same codecs, type footage, duration (1 hour range) with no problems.

I was thinking the same as shooter above.  If you know for a fact you won't be using audio, and you don't want anyone to hear that audio, then just don't record audio.

Keeping the quality will inflate the file size significantly.

im also having problems

Lumetri is leaving a noticeable gap on LEFT SIDE of image where the color correction is not applied.

This is very annoying.

I've rebooted and restarted things....

Just tell me what to do to fix this.

thank you

If you would provide a BRAND that goes with the Surface 3 MODEL.. and the hardware specifications of what is INSIDE the Surface 3, someone who does not already own one might be able to respond

If I ask about an F150 and you don't know that it is a Ford pickup truck, you will not be able to comment

[The thread title is just that, a title.  It should be brief, as all titles are.  The details go in the body of the post.]

I'm inclined to say Adobe does not make any tools for this.

Missing FLV export in CC 2014?

Did you seriously just take away the ability for me to export FLVs? I'm at an independent production company that needs this format support in its daily workflow. Can you give it back? Is there a way to fix this? This upgrade is much better except for this one tiny BUT HUGELY IMPORTANT omission in formats. Why do you keep ruining my day?

[Please choose only a short description for the thread title.]

Try deleting all Media Cache and Media Cache Database files.

Slow/sluggish performance from Premiere Pro

We have multiple editors working on a fibre channel based SAN system (4Gb/s - 8Gb/s cards) with Mac Pros ranging from 2009 - 2012.  OSX v 10.7.5 - 10.8.

Whether they use the SAN volumes OR an eSATA external HD, Premiere is usually sluggish and unresponsive.  Examples include the spacebar not playing a sequence, or trying to stop the playhead at a specific point and having it continue playing for a second or two.  We have also seen problems with slow/jittery/stuttery playback of footage.

What gives?  Are we missing something?  Seems like a software problem (we have also re-installed the software already) and if the program cannot actually handle the footage WITHOUT transcoding (which we're told it can) we may as well move to Avid which transcodes all the stuff thrown at it automatically.  I mean, if we're gonna wait for that process, it'd be nice to eliminate the learning curve Premiere gives us.  That being said, if we can solve the awful responsiveness issues, we'd love to stick with Premiere.

Any advice is appreciated.

CC 2014 - Audio quality reduced from original video

I used to use Adobe Premiere Pro CC WITHOUT THE 2014 version FYI

Let me explain:

-Back then i've been using Adobe Premire Pro CC peacefully using the GPU Mercury Playback thing activated. No problems AT ALL.

-After recording a TV program and getting the AVI File when finished recording, i tested that RAW file to hear it's audio and see the vid with Windows Media Player. Audio quality was perfect, clear and high as it should.

-Whenever i placed that AVI file into Premiere Pro CC (again, NO 2014 version), the audio and video played as it did in WMP.And when rendered/exported to a new file after some edits, it still kept the quality and all that stuff!

.....NOW, with Adobe Premiere CC 2014, there's a BIG PROBLEM....Whenever i place THAT SAME RAW FILE in CC 2014....The video played nicely,yeah...framerate stable etc...The problem is...that the Vid's AUDIO quality has been REDUCED and it's NOT CLEAR ANYMORE,and it happens to ALL THE PREVIOUS AVI FILES I HAVE!!!

What have adobe done?...Don't break what's working correctly!!!...Now i can't go back to Adobe Premiere CC WITHOUT THE 2014 version because of the new version STAYING FOREVER!

Please,HELP ME!!!. I can do a video of what i'm saying so you guys understand the situation.
