both AVCHD and MP4 record at a max of 24mbps in 8 bit color. I did read in the manual that if I get an external recorder I can record 10 bit files using the SDI output on the camera but so far the only external recorders I can find record in DNXHR and Apple ProRes which seems overkill for the type of films I'm creating and I'm on a PC and I'm skeptical that Apple ProRes will continue to work in the future granted Apple is no longer updating QuickTime for Windows. I honestly use to edit on a Mac but no longer do that as the cost to make a PC was much cheaper and I can get more process power out of a PC than an iMac for half the price of what Apple sells their Macs for.

Silly question. what if I say exported the AVCHD files as Cineform 4 setting then once they were in Cineform I took those files and exported to .mp4 and edited those? Would it somehow treat the .mp4 as higher quality files as if I had recorded in that format? Cineform is supposed to retain the quality so I would think if I went to Cineform first then back into .mp4 it should be closer to the same quality as original avchd footage.

I'm not seeing how 24mbps .mp4 or AVCHD is that good for grading anyway and even though Cineform would be a larger file and it would mantain the quality I won't get anything extra out of those files since it was still recorded in 8 bit color mode. I just would have an easier format to playback in premiere.

okay I just realized that if I put the SDHC card back into my canon camera I have an option in the camera to convert AVCHD to MP4. Does that lower the quality or do you think if it is doing it inside the camera it maintains the quality?

I have the same issue. The only difference that I can easily replicate the freeze.

Basically my system for some unknown reason became completely incapable of running Premiere in any form ... Tried to go back to CC 2016 with nothing working.

Things I tryed:
Updating GFX, Updating BIOS
Checking CPU temperatures

Using another drive(SSD and HDD)

Running both the project and the footage from the same drive
Not using mercury playback
Reinstalling Premiere
Installing Premiere 2017 and older
Deleting preferences
Deleting Media Cache
Using other sequence settings
Using Different footage (HD, 4k, 60 fps)

Reinstalled Windows fairly recently as well.

System specs:

Intel I7 4970k

Asus 970 gtx

16gb ram

500gb Samsung SSD

2x4gb HDD
Windows 10

Here is a video of it. I'm fairly certain that Premiere is having some issues with the hardware

Premiere Pro CC - Can't Mix Footage on Timeline

I'm trying to mix footage from my DJI Mavic drone, and my Canon 5D MK III. Ultimately, I want to make presets for 1080p, 2K and 4K footage, all 2.39:1 and be able to edit both Canon and DJI clips on the same timeline.

The Mavic footage has no audio. If I load it into Premiere Pro CC and click properties, I get this:

File Path: \DJI Mavic.MOV
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 51.59 MB
Image Size: 1920 x 1080
Frame Rate: 29.97
Total Duration: 00:00:10:22
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
VR Projection: None

The Canon 5D MK III footage has these properties:

File Path: Canon 5D.MOV
Type: MPEG Movie
File Size: 15.91 MB
Image Size: 1920 x 1080
Frame Rate: 29.97
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
Total Duration: 00;00;04;08
Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
VR Projection: None

As you can see, the only difference is the audio.

If I create a project and load in the two clips, and then drag the Canon footage on to the the timeline area, it creates a sequence which works for both the Canon and Mavic clips.

If right click on the sequence and chose settings, it says the Editing Mode is "ARRI Cinema" and the Channel Format and Number of Channels are both grayed out. The audio sample rate is 48000Hz, as expected.

So... I want to change the sequence setting to create a 2.39:1 "canvas" preset. To do this, I change the frame size to 1920x810, and click ok.

PP says the previews have to be deleted, which is fine. But now I can't drag another copy of the Canon footage to that sequence!  PP won't let me! The sequence is now useless for the Canon footage, but the DJI footage can still be loaded!

Going the other way, If I start a new project, load in the two clips, and start a new sequence by dragging the DJI Mavic footage onto the timeline, I can't then add the Canon footage.

I sent my project to a friend, and he was able to drag one of the clips to a blank timeline, and add the other clip, and vice versa, and change the frame size in the sequence setting with no problems at all! He is able mix and match the clips to any timeline, and change the frame size! I figured something is wrong with my PP CC installation, so I uninstalled it, including the preferences, and reinstalled, but I still have the same problem.

This is not a problem with just DJI Mavic Pro and Canon 5D clips. It happen with all kinds of footage. My installation of CC just doesn't allow me to freely mix footage.

Here a couple of clips (nothing exciting), should you want to experiment: Dropbox - Clips.zip

Here's a screen shot of what's happening on my installation of PP CC:

I've had this problem since day one, and it's really annoying. I didn't know, until recently, that I should be able to do this... now I want to find out how to fix this problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

One more piece of information...

I also have Adobe Production Premium CS6 installed, and I can freely mix and match footage, and change the frame size of the sequence in CS6, so it's clearly something to do with the installation of CC... but if uninstalling and reinstalling PP CC didn't fix it, I don't know what will?

Why is this so difficult? I want a 2nd monitor connected on hdmi to be my monitor. I don't want to fuss around making a win10 window the sort of right size. Just put the 1080p on the second monitor. I must be missing a setting. I can do it in Cubase no problem

Cheers

Yes, got the point.

In fact, the VFR problem is resolved from the 12.0.1 version. I had the opportunity to test it.

Thanks.

Opening project on another computer in Premier 2017

I am working in Adobe Premier CC 2017. I have saved my project onto a hard drive and all of my rushes are also on this hard drive. When I try to open the project on a different computer I have to relink all of the footage even though the path hasn't changed (because the rushes have always been on the hard drive). Does anyone know why this is?

It could be because the hard drive letter is different on each machine.

Did you assign the same fixed drive letter in Disk Management for the external drive on each computer?

How do I assign the same fixed drive letter for the external drive?

Or do you think it's because the two computers are using different operating systems?

Copy the contents of all of the cards to the hard drive.  Then ingest.

The answer that is marked the correct answer is not correct (nor an answer).  Can a moderator please fix this?

The solution, as mentioned by others, is to right click on the problem clip, select Audio Channels, and reassign the source channels.  This can be done to multiple clips at once.

I'm working on macs and it just says "volume". I am not sure I have a drive letter?

Re: Premiere Pro CC - Can't Mix Footage on Timeline

I think I found the solution online!

After starting a new project and importing the clips, I drag the DJI footage to create a new sequence and timeline (starting this way would always give me trouble)

.

When I do this, Video track #1 (V1) is highlighted in blue, but V2, V3 etc is not (PP CC automatically enables the three audio tracks by default).

If I click V2 to highlight it, I can now drag the Canon footage to the timeline!

As we say in Jolly Old England... What the Royal F??!!

Why does a second VIDEO track need to be enabled, just to be able to drag a single video with stereo sound to the timeline?

Further update: Having enabled V2 in one project, I have not needed to do this in any subsequent projects. It's like having once highlighted/enabled V2 in one project, it has toggled a switch in my installation of PP CC... a switch which is now staying on.
