just today, when i choose 'edit original, on an after effects comp from within premiere, it opens VCL player istead of after effects
also it seems that any new changes are not updating now, between AE and premiere, although premiere is playing the file fine.

Do you have any idea how I'd use cineform files on a regular HDD via USB 3 external? So far the timeline plays back super slowly on a laptop with cineform files on a HDD USB 3. If I put them on my 2TB SSD USB C it plays back fine but then of course my SSD fills up quick and then I run out and can not even complete a project. I also tried proxy files via cineform but they are the same file size as high quality it seems.

If that 56°C is idling at room temperature it is pretty hot. If that is under a full CPU it would be amazing. I would suggest downloading Real Temp, here is my laptop at idle.
Also, I never use a hard disk drive especially one the is 90% full for any video editing function. Get a SSD for the immediate project files and after editing use Hard disk drives for backup.archiving. Here is a typical hard disk drive. Notice what happens why you get to 90% full.
I have a new system and I am still having this problem with AVCHD .MTS files using Dolby Audio Codec recorded by a client on a Panasonic HC-V770 camera. It happens only when the camera splits the video over multiple files. The first file is in-sync. The subsequent files are out of sync, typically by 9 to 16 frames.
// ABOUT MY NEW COMPUTER
MSI LAPTOP: Intel Core i7-6920HQ, 32 GB RAM, Windows 10 Home Ver 1709 OS Build 16299.309, Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Driver Version 22.21.13.8205
Premiere Pro Version 12.0.1 (build 69)
(In a previous post I provided information about my other computers. All of them have the same problem. The files play with no problem on VLC Media Player and Movies & TV App. But they are out of sync on Premiere Pro CC 2018 & Media Encoder CC 2018).
Hi GordonS,
Not all file types are supported for exchange between Premiere Pro and Creative Cloud Libraries. Please see this document: Creative Cloud Libraries in Premiere Pro
Thanks,
