Re: Any word on CS7?

So long as I'm not cut off (i.e. can't use the software) if I stop paying for updates monthly.

I hope they go with yearly subscriptions, monthly has statistically failed (in terms of revenue generation) for this type of software ... the model just doesn't work on a monthly basis.  Example: if I stop using the software for 5 months, then decide I want to start using it again ... am I only paying for month OR will I have to pay for the 5 months I stopped using it?  In other words, monthly gets ugly real fast, difficult to manage, consumers don't like it, and revenue drops.

Monthly subscriptions work well for web based applications, but doesn't work for standard application that run local ... those really only work on yearly subscriptions ... tons of industry data to back this up, hopefully Adobe are aware.

You will not be able to use the software if you end your subscription.

You can get a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription paid monthly, or a yearly subscription paid in advance (this last from resellers only, I believe).

All applications are installed to and run from your local hard drive.

I don't know what an MPD-4 is, but chances are PP will be able to handle the media natively.

Copy the entire card to your hard drive.  Delete or rename nothing.

Use the Media Browser inside of PP to navigate to that media and import from there.

If it's shot interlaced, it should be displayed that way, and if it's shot progressive, it should be displayed progressive.

I can't argue with that.  Unfortunately, consumers have chosen style over substance, and the only TV technology capable of doing what is best - CRT - can no longer be purchased.

With Adobe's month-to-month CC plans you only pay for the months that you use the software, and can flexibly stop and start whenever you want.

So in your example, you would only pay for a month and not pay for the 5 months you stopped using it.

Re: Adobe Premiere Audio Problem?

To study this persistent problem even further I've decided to give the video importing to several video editing softwares including Sony Vegas, Powerdirector & Corel VideoStudio. So far Sony Vegas gave back to me a glitched up video feedback and the sound didn't even being to start playing, SV had no chance. Corel VideoStudio however does the complete opposite of what Adobe Premiere does. Which is that rather than playing the video fine and having the audio mess up it plays the audio just fine whilst the video doesn't even play properly. and last but not least Cyblink's powerdirector, this program is the only program out of the rest to be able to play the avi file just fine like the other programs were supposed to.

I don't wish to be using another program to edit my videos just because of this minor problem.

Does anybody know how to fix this please? It'll be much appreciated if somebody could actually post a solution.

Premiere CS6 will not close

Premiere CS6 will not shut down except by using task manager. This is a new problem. Is there something I may have accidentally deleted or changed, and is there a way to restore this function other than be reinstalling the whole program?

Re: MXF file importing trouble to CS5

Thanks Jim, you got me thinking about those presets and I started monkeying with the media browser.  The MXF files import cleanly through it.  I was also not saving enough of the MXF contents file to my hard drive.  Yeah, you need more than the audio and video.  By saving the whole folder,  opening in the media browser and importing from there, seems to be working like a champ.   I’ve never had to go through the media browser before, but I usually deal with only with .avi or mpeg files.

Thanks again for the nudge in the right direction.

Are we correct in assuming that you are not a current Premiere Pro user?

Generally I think Nikon's record video in a MOV wrapper similar to what Canon DSLR's do.

You can always download a trial verion of Premiere and see what happens, also, you may like to try Grass Valley's Edius if Premiere cannot handle your files

I have no problems with either Premiere or Edius editing my Canon 7D files and I have not had to convert.  The edited movies I export in MP4 format and also to the HD version of MPEG2, Premiere has export presets that have customizable settings you can tailor to suit and hence retain max quality

By the way Premiere is soon to go subscription only so you can only use the software when your subscription is current, the monthly cost varies to where you live, judging by your monika you are in God's country AKA NZ. if it is NZ where you live you will probably be screwed compared to the guys in the US by that I mean pay more, there are masses of posts in the video lounge on the subscription issue

I now am having the same exact problem... VERY frustrating as I'm editing a 2 hour feature and losing hours and hours of rendering is not making me a happy editor. Has Adobe made any headway in solving this problem?

Pretty sure (99%) that's NOT going to work for Adobe if history of this method is anything of a reference point.  This approach has been done before (by many other companies) and has failed in just about ever instance.

Can't stress enough how much Month-to-Month is going to be bad for Adobe.  Month to month is just NOT a good fit for this type of software.

The pay every month for a yearly subscription might work (assuming cancellation doesn't terminate monthly payments of the yearly subscription), but hard to say, no one has really ever done that before.

I think what you'll see happen is many (not all) existing customer base stop with CS6 because it puts a huge stress on the need to provide "regular new features" when you move to month-to-month ... if those features aren't significant enough then people just stop paying.  It's difficult to developer significant must have new features every month to keep a customer base "interested".

AMD Radeon HD 6870 for CS6?

Will an AMD Radeon HD 6870 perform well for Premiere CS6? Will I be better off with an NVIDIA card?

Thanks!

I assume you're asking about this on a Windows platform?  If so, the AMD card won't work at all with CS6.  Adobe hasn't moved their OpenCL MPE code to Windows as of CS6.  For that you'll need CC when it's released in June.

Stick with nVidia.

Thanks Jim, but as I mentioned above, I've had no problems editing my GoPro footage.

My only concern is the .m2ts shot with my Hitachi camcorder. Even since my screen shot above, I've since tried moving all my media to my :c systems drive, but that hasn't worked either. Still, no audio tracks are appearing after importing.

Leo's information is far from accurate.  Plenty of folks are using MPEG based footage inside of PP without issue. (In todays world of media, I'd even venture to say the vast majority are using some kind of MPEG footage.)

Now it would be fair to say that there are a number of people having issues with GoPro footage, which often doesn't conform to any established standard.  You might try a forum search for GoPro and take a look at what others are doing.

M2V. M4V. M2T, M2TS  and other Ms, exept MXF(Material Transfer File), this M formats, is variations of MPEG2 format , implemented by dedicated hardware, inside the cameras, and the video is encoded on the fly. The same occurs using AVC. But MPG is better.

Here we bougth CS6, bougth Rovi Totalcode, and other plugins, ( we spent about Us$3000) because CS6 do not have full support natively for MPEG2. we got very serious problems because of it.

After some months of sadness and frustrations, we return do CS5.5. Fortunately the plug-ins worked in 5.5.

Now we producing fast and well. No more CS6 here. In fact , in PP CS6 WITH ROVI TOTALCODE INSTALLED, MPEG2 works, but still have problems in dinamic link, in AA6 that do not import MPEG video directely, Encore have many issues... no no... Its terrible . ! We have so many problems here . No more CS6 for us.

In the future, maybe a CS7 version , returns with MPEG fully implemmented like CS5.5.

I know what i´m talking about.

I can not speakofmanyotherpeopleasyou speak, because Ido not knowmanyotherpeople who are happyand producingwell withCS6, I can only speakformyself and myteam. CS6 and MPEG format are to separated entities.

We work with post production, we have here 6 top notch machines ( four dual 16core opterons,128GB ddr3 ram, tesla and quadro running Windows8 pro and  Two  quad 16core Operons- 64cores, 256Gb ddr3, for 4K editting, running Windows server enterprise, converted to workstations becouse of 4P motherboards) and CS6 did not work well in none of machines. CS5.5 returns and  is doing a great job.

So is not hardware issue. MPEG do not work well in CS6 , and CS6 is unstable in any configuration . We here use to say tha CS6 is still a Beta software with unsolved problems, that wont be solved.

because CS6 do not have full support natively for MPEG2

Actually CS6 does fully support standardized MPEG2 formats like XDCAM EX, XDCAM HD, HDV and Canon'x MXF files. I've even thrown quite a few Internet downloads into it without issue, including some with 5.1 audio.

This doesn't mean that every MPEG2 file will work, but the standardized camera formats should work just fine, no plug-ins required.

.m2ts shot with my Hitachi camcorder.

I couldn't find any standards associated with that camera, so it's possible it's shooting non-standard video.  That could be an issue.  If you want to upload a clip, I can check it's behavior here.

After syncing footage in CS5 with external audio, where do I store it?

$

Hi,

I'm a photographer new to editing.

I've moved my footage to the timeline, unlinked it the video/audio, synced the audio from an external recorder to the video, the linked those two.

I then moved the footage into a new bin the the project window. When I then move that footage back to the timeline, the footage has the original audio that I deleted, and the new audio is gone.

Any ideas? Where should I be moving the footage with the synced audio to store it prior to starting the editing?

thanks,

Chuck
