Another approach is to edit the clips in Audition. Right click on the clip and select "edit in audition." Change the audition scrub as small as possible and drag it across the clip, watching the meters and listening. When you hit a area of clipping, stop scrolling, and then highlight that section and drag down the gain for the section to what you want. saves the marking step. I recently did this to lessen the damage due to popping caused by the mic being too close.
