Thanks Kevin! I appreciate the solution! This is definitely going to help my next edit in a big way.
And Bill and Kevin, while I can see where you're coming from and I appreciate it, please remember that there was no hover scrub or a similarly functioning "Icon View" in FCP 7. So I'm not asking PP to be like FCP 7 or to turn into FCP 8. Icon View is a new (and quite awesome) feature to me, and some obvious functionality seemed to be missing which is why I made the post. Happily in this case, there was a solution. Unfortunately, that's not always how things work out.
My issue is more with searching for a solution. And often it's a problem that a lot of people are looking for because there are a number of posts on the subject. And the discussion will go something like this:
OP: "I want to do this."
Reply: "You can't."
OP: "What? Why not? It's so obvious."
Reply: "It just doesn't work that way. Do this instead. It will add 3 steps to your workflow every time you do it, but that's the way the cookie crumbles."
That's what's frustrating to me. I've also worked on many NLEs, including FCP, Avid and even Premiere before they put the "PRO" tag on it. And I really like PP. In fact, I'm encouraging an associate to purchase it over FCPX as we speak. But that doesn't change the fact that there are some things that seem very obvious to me and a number of other editors (even some who have been using Premiere for years) and we're all equally baffled that these features don't exist. Some of these posts are years old, with slews of people claiming they're "Leaving this post right now to file a feature request". And here it is years later and we're still posting about the same thing.
But in the end I've moved from being a "FCP Guy" to an "Adobe Guy", and I'm honestly enjoying the (sometimes bumpy) ride. Fingers optimistically crossed for what you guys have waiting for us in the future.
