Best practice for working on projects collaboratively and mitigate links breaking (Premiere/After Effects)

0

Hi All!

My small team is restructuring on work and we will begin to work more collaboratively on projects. The creative cloud service is disabled by IT, so using Teams Projects is not an option. Saving files and working from our shared network drive is not an option, because it's slow due to our firewall.

The two potential options we have discussed:

1.) Working from a shared external drive that we can physically pass around ( This is not ideal, because we do occasionally work remotely)

2.) Create our projects using project manager in premiere, and transferring the files to a shared network drive.  Then pulling the files off the drive and working locally.  (As far as I am aware there is nothing in After Effects that is like the project manager, so we would get a lot of broken links.)

Is there a better solution?  How do your teams work on projects collectively without using the Creative Cloud?

I can't tell if that is a 2-core or 4-core machine, but ... it's got a pretty small capability CPU it seems. Low-ish on RAM also. You just don't have enough horsepower there for playback after doing much editing or adding of effects.

So ... you will need to become good at using the Proxy process. Go into the help files and check up on making and using proxies. For that rig, stay with the Cineform proxies but of small frame-size.

Help us to help you...we know nothing of what you are doing.

What are the dimensions and format of the image, like 3000x2000 .jpg for instance

What are the Sequence Settings in Premiere?

What Export Settings did you use?

If Export happened to have defaulted to an Uncompressed codec, your hard drive may not be fast enough to play back smoothly.

There are many possible reasons for your issue, but without knowing what you are doing, nothing to do on and just guessing

Screen shots of Sequence Settings and Export Settings are tremendously helpful in these cases if possible

Thanks

Jeff

Why is your IT doing everything they can to destroy any collaborative environment? That's ... absurd to the MAX. There are thousands of companies and teams working safely via the CC methods ... ah well.

I feel for you ... I really do not see any efficient way to make this work. Your IT department sadly sounds like they were all trained in 1989, and have steadfastly avoided any degrading of Modern Ideas.

By reveal panels, do you mean resizing the assembled panels (Ann's comment in post 27), or the panels not staying part of the legacy title group (a problem that should now be fixed)? What specific dot version of PR are you using?

This is actually happening to me as well. Here's a screenshot of a finished file and its doppelganger...
Both finished MP4 files work individually, so not sure why Premiere is making two? If I delete one I have no issue using the other one...?

Not really an issue but weird.Double Premiere Export sample.png

MichaelM,

  • How do your teams work on projects collectively without using the Creative Cloud?

First of all, there is no "one way" to collaborate with others as each production has variations on what works and what is needed. Testing is the only way to be certain of what works and what does not.

Hardware:
If your "firewall is too slow," create your own media sharing network. Costs are not that prohibitive these days. You don't need to work on CC for Teams, but you should invest in connected storage that has the media that you all share. I would get a separate array and set up a 10 GigE network for your media. I've seen good stuff from QNAP: Master your digital files for work and daily life | QNAP (US)

Otherwise, you're sneaker netting drives around. That can be difficult to manage. Well worth the small investment for fast connected storage.

Project Management:

You do need one person on your team to be the "main editor" or "project manager." That person can create a project which is basically an "empty project" that can accept project files from collaborators. This person manages building up the final sequence.

You import project items from these collaborators via project files. After the info is gathered from collaborators, "unmount" these projects to keep the main project lean and mean.

Make sure you do plenty of tests to make sure that your system works within your org.

You may want to consult YouTube videos by Karl Soulé to further dial in your custom workflow for a collaborative workflow.

Thanks,
Kevin

Video Playback Not Working...

Have not edited any video in several months and then last night went to do one and made several cuts and was ready to preview and nope.  Audio plays, video jerks a bit in the preview scrubber then just freezes.  Audio plays fine.

Checked the audio settings issue as suggested as answer in another thread.  Sure enough a monitor had taken over as an audio device, so removed that from the hardware and still nada.

Checked source video outside PP and it plays fine.

Checked with a brand new project and reimported video and still nothing.

Reinstalled 12.x from CC control panel and didn't work there either.

Driver for video is current.

CODECs are current.

Like I said, it plays fine as video, so it's not that.

Have rebooted several times as well.  Cleared the cache, everything I can think of.

With 12.x, 13.x was still installed, so I didn't undo that, but not sure it should matter.

Has any found the source of this and the fix???

Is their any other way?

Your issue is different from the original question which is about mulitplexing.

Open the properties and check the time when they were made.

You wont find this in any tutorial. Made it up myself.

Its one mask not 3.

You have to be very precise. If the line shows expand the mask to a negative number.
