I am seriously furious at this point with Premiere randomly crashing when importing material.

Latest version through the subscription, Win 10 i9 9900k 32GB RAM. This is infuriating. Literally about a 25% chance to crash on choosing import. Sick of paying money just to be slapped in the face with losing work through your unstable horse ****. Jesus christ already.

Join the group, eh?

I've been wondering about my "confidence" monitor and my calibration setup ... over the last month, some times things just were ... odd. Re-calibrate, and maybe ... it was better ... or not. Not sure if my puck was just aged and failing (the filters do go 'down' over time) or my monitor was failing.

Just got in a new i1 Display Pro setup, and ... yea, my calibration was off. But ... the monitor is now shown as close to targets ... but clearly the right 1/8th of the screen or so is perhaps a teens bit lighter ... coming up on time for a new monitor.

But at least, I'm back within 'norms' for the work I do. Just ... got to regrade the couple projects I'm working on. Not far off, but ... not as close as I'd want to go out the door either.

This stuff can drive ya crazy.

One colorist wrote an article about gramma's green tv. He'd graded a major commercial, it went out on b-cast on the networks, and he went on vacation to visit his gramma in Wisconsin. One of those "dears" who leave the TV running as background all day. And ... there was his commercial ... looking a very sick green to him. Gramma thought it was lovely though, because her TV has been sickly green for so long it's 'normal' to her eyes, and ... compared to the other b-cast material on her screen ... it was as good or better for tonality/color.

But you still can't fix gramma's green TV ...

The horse is stable. The horse either does not like where it's caching the files OR the horse does not like one or several of the files you are trying to import.

1- Where is your cache folder located? Change it's location. Please share your storage configuration.
2- You probably have some corrupted files. Import one by one to single out the culprit. (If changing the Cache location does not help)

Sorry it took so long to circle back. I was ill.

Did you ever solve this issue?

Thanks,
Kevin

Everything in Life ... well, nearly everything ... is a trade-off/judgement call, really.

How much can you justify as a business expense for part of your trade you do occasionally but not very often? Just listened to a colorist's podcast talking about the question of when to jump into real full HDR ... whether DolbyVision or something else. For those guys, we're talking about whether to get a new SDR monitor for say $4500, or go ahead and get a monitor that can be calibrated into at least 400 nits if not 500 with still very tight color/tonality ... for maybe $10,000 or so.

A bit above my paygrade ... as I expect it is for you!

So ... we do what we can. The i1 Pro Display is at least getting someone ... closer.

KJ,

We didn't hear back from you. Is everything OK or do you still need help?

Best,

Do you have the latest Intel GPU drivers (from their website)? There's been a bunch crashes related to older Intel GPU drivers.

CUDA should be available. When did it become unavailable? After a PP update? or just by itself? Have you recently updated the GPU driver?

1- Try trashing preferences.

2- Try updating or rolling back GPU Driver.

3- share with us full specs of your system + what version of premiere you are using so we can better help you.

Major disappointment in Premiere Pro 2019

I have been using Premiere for the last several years for video editing for our company.  I just updated to 2019 and I could not be more disappointed.  The entire program is soooo slow, especially compared to the most recent version.  I am running a brand new Microsoft surface book 2, with all kinds of power.  The program hesitates just to move between screens when moving to render  The timeline barely moves - and I am running at 1/2 to 1/4 resolution.  I thought this update was going to be about performance!  Apparently not!  If you need some sort of updating to different version of drivers to run this program Adobe should be specific about that.  I am not a computer guru, so updating drivers and whatnot can be problematic if you don't know exactly what you are doing. Why does Adobe not care a little bit more about their customers?

Anyway, I am frustrated as our most recent project is taking longer than it should.  I have been doing some testing with Davinci Resolve and this program sure looks promising.

Most probably your storage is filling up.
Please share with us what hard drives are you using besides the EVO to edit? Where are storing everything?

Just to be on the safe side, did you change you Shooting habits? (Camera, resolution, frame rate, codec, etc.) that might have triggered the issue.

Also to be on the safe side, open up your PCs and clean the dust around the CPU, the CPU fan and the box vents.

Is there a better option in the new version of Premiere?

Has nothing to do with the files, The app crashes on trying to create the explorer window before you even get to selecting anything to import. THis was happening also on my old system, this i9 is a new system built within the last 2 weeks. And please, claiming Premiere is stable is a joke. Ever since they went the sub model, we've essentially been getting beta releases shipped out to us and the user base are now the beta testers. Gone are the days of actually nailing down a pretty rock solid release for package of brand new versions. Taking a look through forums where actual professional industry editors like to talk shop will enlighten you to how "stable" Premiere is.

I have all the updated Intel drivers for anything to do with my Motherboard as this system was just built 2 weeks ago (And this import issue extended into the old system too). To be clear, the app crashes upon attempting to open an Explorer window to find the file to import, not when importing a file.

That's strange - is there something non-typical about your windows installations or files in the default explorer open location that might be related? I just opened the file import window on my windows machine about 20 times without any issue whatsoever.
